Microneedling at Palm Beach Facials
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is a method used to treat different skin conditions. The technique involves using multiple tiny, sterile needles to puncture the skin and cause physical trauma.
This trauma prompts the derma, a deeper layer of skin, to rebuild. This triggers your skin to go into a natural healing response. Collagen production goes into overdrive. This natural response has the capability to repair and correct a plethora of skin conditions from the inside out.
What are the benefits of Microneedling?
Microneedling may help address many skin-related complaints, including:
wrinkles
scarring
acne
alopecia
skin pigmentation issues
stretch marks
rosacea
loose skin
It also rejuvenates the skin by triggering your body to naturally amp up the amount of collagen being produced.
Is Microneedling painful?
Microneedling involves a series of quick punctures into the skin with tiny needles. While the process is quick and the needles are noticeably short, there can be some discomfort during the treatment. However, at Palm Beach Facials, clients have the option to be numbed using a topical numbing agent prior to the Microneedling treatment. Once the skin has been numbed, you will not feel any pain or discomfort during your treatment.
What are the side effects of Microneedling?
The medical community generally considers microneedling to be safe and effective, but there are still some risks. The primary risk is skin irritation after the procedure.
Other side effects could include:
swelling
discomfort at the site
redness
bruising
dryness
flaking of the skin
Bleeding is an uncommon reaction to microneedling, though it may be more likely to occur after a deeper treatment.
Bleeding may also be more of a risk for people who have bleeding disorders or who are taking blood-thinning medications. It is important to disclose this information before receiving this treatment.
Am I a candidate for Microneedling?
Some people are not candidates for microneedling treatment, including those with:
an active skin infection
active acne
keloid scarring
an unstable skin type
How often should I have Microneedling done?
Microneedling can be safely done about once a month or every 4 to 6 weeks. This is the frequency that works best for most clients of all skin types.
If it’s your first time with this treatment, then you’re going to be in for a “round” a treatments that take place closer together than your regular treatments will in the future.
The first round of treatments is used to kick-start your treatment so you can get the best results quickly. For most clients, this means 2 to 3 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart.
After your first round of treatment is completed and you have obtained your desired results, all subsequent appointments will be used to maintain these results.
Because the results of this treatment build gradually, you will be able to have more time between your regular maintenance appointments than your first round. Many clients opt to have regular treatments every 6 to 8 weeks for this purpose.
What is included in the Microneedling treatment at Palm Beach Facials?
Step one: Numbing and cleansing
We will apply a topical numbing cream to the surface of your skin for about 10 to 20 minutes prior to the start of your treatment. Once your face is sufficiently numb, we will use a gentle cleanser to remove the cream and any excess dirt, oil, or make-up from the skin surface.
Step two: Microneedling
We will treat your skin by using the needling device, which will create micro punctures along the entire surface of your skin, with the exception of your under-eye area and your lips. The needling is done one section of the skin at a time to make sure all areas are treated equally. When the needling portion is concluded, we will cleanse your skin again.
Step three: Peptide and vitamin infusion
After Microneedling, you will have several open channels in your skin, We take advantage of this opportunity and apply serums rich in peptides and vitamins to your skin to promote healing and allow your skin to absorb added nutrients.
Step four: LED Light Therapy
Finally, you will receive LED Light therapy. LED light therapy, or light-emitting diode therapy, is a skin rejuvenation treatment that exposes skin to different wavelengths of visible light to address a variety of skin conditions and boost overall radiance.
The nonthermal, low-level light penetrates skin without creating any trauma—unlike laser resurfacing, which relies on controlled microdamage to rejuvenate the skin.
The technology was first developed by NASA to grow plants in space, before the agency turned it on astronauts and found LED light therapy also promoted human tissue growth and wound-healing activity.
What is the after-care for Microneedling?
For the first few days after your microneedling procedure, you will need to avoid any skin care product that contains harsh chemicals meant to exfoliate. Avoid anything that is heavily scented, and do not use glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acids.
Retinol A and vitamin C serum should be avoided for the first 48 hours, minimum, after microneedling. Once 2 full days have passed, you want to gradually add products back into your daily beauty routine instead of doing your usual regimen, especially if you use products that have strong anti-aging formulas.
Hyaluronic acid can also be used following microneedling to help stimulate collagen production after your procedure.
Be diligent about wearing sunscreen constantly for the first 2 weeks after microneedling. Make sure to apply sunscreen anytime you go outside in the days following your treatment. Do not spend prolonged time out in the sun for the first week after your microneedling procedure, as you will be more prone to sun damage than usual.
Be sure to keep your face clean for the first 24 hours. Wash your hands before you touch your face. Do not put on makeup, especially with a makeup brush that has been used before. Make sure any towels you are using on your face after washing are freshly cleaned to avoid bacteria.
You also need to avoid swimming pools, saunas, and situations where you might sweat heavily, including intense workouts at the gym, to protect your newly treated skin. After 72 hours have passed, you may be able to resume these activities.
After your Microneedling treatment at Palm Beach Facials, you will be given a complete after-care kit which will include all the products you need to keep your skin clean and cared for post procedure. This makes the after-care process simple and safe ensuring you are prepared to care for your skin.
