If you have any current skin concerns such as active acne, congested pores/blackheads, hyperpigmentation, dehydrated skin, etc., you may want to see your Esthetician every 2 weeks. This allows you and your Esthetician to consistently treat your specific concern and gives you the best chance to get your skin on track to become clear and healthy. Depending on which methods are used to treat your skin, it is completely safe to get a couple of facials a month. If you are on a skincare journey, I recommend sticking with the same Esthetician throughout so that they can monitor your progress and learn your skin. Your Esthetician will be able to follow your progress and will know which treatments your skin responds to the best. They will also have a history of your treatments and will know which treatments may be too aggressive for you skin, especially if you are having services done every couple of weeks.
Once you have achieved a healthy and clear complexion, it will be time to move into maintenance mode. During this time, one facial every 28 days is recommended. Our skin cycle is generally 28 days long (depending on your age). At the end of the skin cycle, dead skin cells are replaced by healthy new ones. Unfortunately, those dead skin cells can accumulate on the surface of the skin. This is one reason our pores get clogged and create blackheads and breakouts. These dead skin cells also contribute a dull, lackluster complexion. Another reason why it is important to keep up with the removal of the dead skin cells is because the build up can create a barrier on the surface of this skin. This will prevent your skincare products from properly penetrating the epidermis making your daily skin care routine less effective.
Your Esthetician can also set you up with an at-home skin care routine to help combat the build up of dead skin cells, however, at-home treatments cannot replace professional services. Rather, at-home skincare compliments professional treatments and keeps you on track to achieving beautiful and healthy skin. If it has been a while since your last facial, give your Esthetician a call – your skin will thank you!
